Artist Floor Talk: Kate Price

Dead plants. Five identical gnome statuettes. 'Beware! Dangerous Dog' signs.The private/public space of home windowsills and front exteriors are utilised by people as a space to enlighten, ward off or be neutral. Gleaned from these assemblages are details of the owner, aspects of their habits and perceived sense of individuality, or of their drive to conform to group notions. Within this exhibition such collections and their implications will be examined.

Kate Price has just returned to Australia after living in the Netherlands for over a year.Lucky for us, Kate is presenting Her first solo exhibition since returning to Australia, 'Hospitable Structures, Makeshift Places', at the WAG from November 2017 to February 2018 During this floor talk, Kate will discuss the impact that moving to a new place has had on her working practice and how those changes and stimulation have resulted in the creation of this exhibition.

Kate Price

Kate Price is a visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia who primarily works with drawing, painting, collage and installation. Within her practice Price investigates notions surrounding the human condition and individuality, being particularly interested in the fluidity and constant changing of ones sense of self over time, how we tend to display such individualism and its position in relation to western group systems and social frameworks.

Price has recently returned to Australia after living in the Netherlands during 2016-2017. During this time she conducted artist residency programs at Das Spectrum in Utrecht and Foundation B.a.d. in Rotterdam. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art, Honours 1st Class) from RMIT in 2012 Price has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions in Australia and the Netherlands including solo exhibitions at A014, Utrecht (2017), Kings Artist Run, Melbourne (2015), Seventh Gallery, Fitzroy (2013), Bus Projects, Collingwood (2013) and Blindside Gallery, Melbourne (2012).
