The Junior Warrnibald 2018

event date:
Sunday, 22 July 2018 - 3:00pm

Thank you to the Junior Warrnibald 2018 sponsors Darrian Office Choice and Commonwealth Bank Warrnambool.

In 2018, Warrnambool Art Gallery (WAG) and Western District Employment Access (WDEA) are excited to announce the inaugural Junior Warrnibald. The Junior Warrnibald is a portrait competition, just like the Warrnibald, but for artists aged 18 and under. Artists will have the opportunity to create and exhibit a 2D portrait of someone in their lives who they look up to. Portrait subjects can be of anyone who inspires them. The subject must know and have a relationship with the artist, for example the artist’s subject could be a parent, a grandparent, a foster carer, a neighbour, a friend, a teacher, a doctor, a nurse, a shop owner etc.

Entry Requirements

Entries to the Junior Warrnibald must be by artists under the age of 18 at the time of submitting and can be created using any material of the artist’s choosing (i.e. felt, pencil, paint etc.) but must be made on the Warrnambool Art Gallery’s specially-designed Junior Warrnibald art board. Junior Warrnibald art boards available for purchase from the Warrnambool Art Gallery from 10am Wednesday 4th July to 3pm Friday 20th July 2018 for $10 each. Art boards are limited and available until sold out.

Purchase of the art board includes entry into the Junior Warrnibald. Artworks must be submitted along with the completed Artist Entry Form. Artists should also write their name, age and name of the sitter on the front of their work. $5 of each entry fee will be donated to WDEA to support their Artlink Program: an initiative that helps people with a range of abilities identify and achieve their creative goals, and promote the inclusivity of everyone in community life.

Making and Submitting your Entry

Artists can choose to make their entry at the Warrnambool Art Gallery (pencils provided only) or can complete their entries at home. Entries can be submitted at any time between 10am Wednesday 4th July to 3pm Friday 20th July 2018. Entries will be hung on the wall as they are received during weekday business hours (10am to 5pm). See below for an entry form.

All entries will be eligible to receive a prize in the artist’s age group. First and second prizes will be awarded in 4 age groups: up to age 5, ages 6-10, ages 11-15, and ages 16-18. The first prize winners in each age group will receive a cash prize of $100 from Commonwealth Bank Warrnambool.
