Koorie Early Years Resource Kit Launch

event date:
Thursday, 2 August 2018 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Gunditjmara Aboriginal Cooperative and The Koorie Early Years Network South West invites you to the launch of the first Koorie Early Years Resource Kit developed locally. The Kit will be FREE to all preschool programs and sites across south west Victoria. Accompanying books to use along with the resource will be available for purchase through Warrnambool Books at the launch, and afterwards via online or bookshop orders.

This valuable learning tool was developed by Keerray Woorroong (the Maar Nation – Gunditjmara) Early Years educator and artist Sherry Johnstone. Sherry’s experience working with young children and their families extends across preschool and primary school programs. Sherry’s wealth of local cultural knowledge and her connection to Country has resulted in this inspirational resource that will lead Early Years Educators (and parents) to a broader understanding of Aboriginal symbols, stories and games for young children from all cultures.

The Kit, which was generously funded by FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal), will be launched by local Elders Uncle Robbie Lowe Senior and Uncle Locky Eccles. Sherry will introduce you to the resource and how to use it. In Sherry’s words:

I have created this resource to make a difference to the lack of locally produced resources for teachers, in the hope they gain some confidence and ideas to easily incorporate Aboriginal culture (including language) within their programs and services.
