The egg lends itself effortlessly to cosmogonic myths and creation stories, as it’s a natural and universal symbol for life. Throughout history and through multiple cultures, the egg has represented the beginnings of the earth and of life itself. Jenny Noyes explores both the form and the mythology of the egg world in her latest exhibition, ‘Performance on an Egg’. These particular egg-worlds have familiar natural elements such as forests and ponds, but are inhabited by unearthly creatures who are engaged in a variety of surreal activities.

The creatures are reminiscent of those who populate the painted worlds of Heironymus Bosch (who also utilised the symbol of the egg in several of his artworks).
