South West TAFE Graduating Exhibition

Saturday, 11 November 2017 to Sunday, 26 November 2017

The annual South West TAFE (SW TAFE) Visual Arts Graduating Exhibition showcases the bold and diverse practices that are bustling in South West Victoria. This group show is a glimpse into the processes and conceptual developments of each exhibiting student, orchestrated under one coherent and tactile space. The high calibre of works on display reflect this critical moment in their career, as they transition from student to thriving emerging artist, and begin their respective journeys.

The show is part of WAG’s commitment to provide opportunities for artists to show deeper and broader aspects of their practice, to test new ideas in their work and to give them time and space to develop. From the suite of works exhibited, the WAG curatorial team will award the 2017 Peter Lucas Memorial Art Prize to be announced at the opening event between 1:00PM-3:00PM, Sunday 12 November . The recipient will be one that exemplifies a level of refined conceptual development in their artistic practice, with potential for future aspirations as a thriving emerging artist.

Peter Lucas Memorial Art Prize

The Peter Lucas Memorial Art Prize is an annual award sponsored by the WAG that provides a student from the SW TAFE with an annual mentorship and exhibition space for the resulting presentation of their work. The winner is selected from one of the participating artists in the SW TAFE Visual Arts Graduating Exhibition.

Now in its eighteenth year, the prize aims to celebrate the life of Peter Lucas, a great teacher, artist and friend whose influence and inspiration lives on in the works and lives of many individuals within the Warrnambool art community. With the spirit of Peter in mind, this prize encourages emerging artists to follow their ambitions by providing them with a platform to launch a career in the arts. This is an opportunity to develop vital skills to forge a career pathway between graduating and becoming a professional artist.
