Paul Jennings UNREAL! Guided tours

Enjoy a free guided tour around the Paul Jennings: UNREAL exhibition. Find out which books Paul loved to read as a child and gain some insights into the illustrations on display. Families can then pick up an activity book which children can complete in the space and then take home.

Meet at WAG reception desk.

This event is a drop-in activity. No bookings are required.

Seaweed Baskets with Brett Clarke

Come along and learn about the art of weaving baskets from seaweed with Keerray Woorroong artist, Brett Clarke.

Bush Animals with Aunty Bronwyn Razem

Join contemporary artist and Master Weaver, Aunty Bronwyn Razem as she shares knowledge of traditional weaving passed on through her Gunditjmara family heritage. Inspired by the Tjanpi Desert Weavers, Aunty Bronwyn will teach you how to sculpt hay with wool to create a Bush Animal with real personality! Please call the gallery @ (03) 5559 4949 to secure your place as numbers are limited.

NGV Kids on Tour


Do you like to play make believe? Close your eyes and imagine – transform into a creature, fly through the sky, or travel through infinite worlds. Your creativity can take you anywhere with the NGV Kids on Tour 2019.
These are drop-in activities and places will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis until materials have run out. 

NGV Kids on Tour: Incredible Illusions

Artist M. C. Escher’s detailed prints of mind-bending optical illusions will have you seeing stars and scratching your head. For this workshop, children and families will learn the tricks behind some visual illusions and try a series of hand-on activities in the Incredible Illusions workbook.

NGV Kids on Tour: Terrific Tessellations

In this making workshop, children and families can discover the magic of tessellation and learn how to turn their 2D geometric patterns into 3D tetrahedron objects.

NGV Kids on Tour: Dog's Life with William Wegman
Monday 7 January

Inspired by Wegman's popular children's book series Flo & Wendell, this collage workshop has been developed in collaboration with the artist and invites children to create their own mixed media, 'make believe' scenes, with Wegman's Weimaraner dogs as the stars.

NGV Kids on Tour: Build Your Town

What do you see in the streets of your town? In this workshop, children and families will use brightly coloured materials to design the city or town where they live - or to create a fantasy landscape. Then take on a 'superchallenge', and build your city out of clay!

Come along to this fun sessions which includes a tour of the UNREAL exhibition, a close look at one of Paul Jennings’ books and the chance to try your hand at creative writing.

The Fisherman and the Theefyspray

After a tour of the exhibition, listen to the beautiful story of The Fisherman and the Theefyspray (illustrated by Jane Tanner). Children will then have the chance to create their own mythical creature from craft materials.

Who's a Rascal?

Listen to fun stories about Jennings’ cheeky dragon, Rascal. Children will then have the opportunity to model their own dragon. Includes a tour of the exhibition.

The Skeleton in the Dunny

After a tour of the exhibition listen to the story of the Skeleton on the Dunny which was set in Timboon! You can even watch an episode of Round the Twist based on this story. Children will then have the opportunity to create their own skeleton mask from scratch paper.
