Madeleine Peters makes paintings that contemplate connections between place and human activity, belief and longing. Her images move tangentially through a wide-cast net of references from local history archives and old master paintings to hobby magazines, family albums and her own personal photographs. Drawing upon the traditions of photography and cinema, Peter’s explores the unwavering human desire to produce images; either as a devotional act, keepsake or document.
Based in Warrnambool, South West Victoria, Peters’ completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) at the Victorian College of the Arts, 2020. She has been a finalist in numerous awards including; National Gallery of Victoria Women’s Association Award, 2020; The Maude Glover Fleay Scholarship, 2018; and Len Fox Painting Award, 2016.
