Artist in Residence Program

event date:

The Victorian Regional Artist Residency (VRAR) is an annual opportunity from Chunky Move and Warrnambool Art Gallery for artists residing in Victoria who have a minimum of 3 years professional experience. The aims of the residency are: to engage people with contemporary art and performance across Warrnambool and Melbourne; to propose new ways of thinking about what movement is and the role of movement artists in society, and to connect artists and their practice with the Warrnambool community.

Chunky Move in partnership with Warrnambool Art Gallery (WAG) are offering an exciting, multi-location artist residency opportunity from 15 to 22 June 2021 at Chunky Move Studios (Melbourne) and 24 June - 4 July 2021 at Warrnambool Art Gallery (Warrnambool).

We are seeking expressions of interest from practicing artists based in Victoria with a minimum of 3 years professional experience. Artists should have a demonstrated focus on research-led practice with performance and/or choreography as an underpinning aspect of their work.

Artists are encouraged to reflect on ideas and rationales for a project or research specific to the context of place. We also encourage artists with a project or idea that is already in train and would benefit from a concentrated research period in two distinct locations to apply. Artists whose practice engages with local community or has a specific desire to engage with the Warrnambool community are also encouraged to apply.

In consultation with the curatorial staff at WAG, the resident artist will be asked to develop a minimum of one public engagement outcome in Warrnambool as part of the residency. This may take the form of an artist talk, public showing, performance or community workshop, or any combination of these.
