Orchestrating a collision between artists whose practices, on the surface, seem incongruent creates a rare and unique moment for transformation. From one to another to another, meaning is created, transferred, considered and reconsidered. Only at the exact moment of impact, if we choose to engage, can it change us, possibly forever.
This exhibition places artworks of Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, Gordon Bennett and Shaun Gladwell in dialogue with the body’s relationship with institutional power, the archive, technology and death in a collision of ideas that invites us to confront our own mortality.
Inspired by writer, historian, artist and activist Morgan M. Page’s phrase ‘dreaming myself into a future that was worth living’ this exhibition wrestles with this question through the lens of historical practices and speculative futures.
Transforming the gallery through Danielle Brathwaite-Shirely’s art practice and exhibition design, we are offered the opportunity not to rest from the world but rather, to wrestle with it.
