Gifts of Artwork

The Gallery Collection grows through the generous bequest of artworks. Acquisition is not automatic and is governed by an acquisition policy which aims to ensure the collection develops strategically.

Gifts of artwork can be made through the Federal Government Deductible Gift Recipient Scheme. Information about the scheme is available at http://www.arts.gov.au/tax_incentives/cgp.

Warrnambool Art Gallery Foundation

One of the enduring threads running through the history of our art gallery and indeed of our city has been benefaction. Many of our important local institutions were established and supported thought the voluntary efforts and fundraising zeal of local citizens.

The exceptional generosity and vision of individuals, corporations and numerous private foundations has helped WAG to become what it is today and enabled it to strengthen and extend the range of the Collection and conserve and care for it; offer innovative exhibitions and collection displays; develop imaginative education and interpretation programmes and to ensure that the Gallery is accessible and continues to meet the needs of visitors.

The WAG Foundation was formed in 2008 from an initial settlement from the Gwen & Edna Jones Foundation. It replaced the earlier Warrnambool Art Gallery Trust, originally formed in 1990. Funds from the old trust were transferred into the new foundation in 2008. This money was invested and has shown pleasing growth in what has sometimes been a difficult financial climate. As well as consolidating this investment, ten artworks for the permanent collection have been purchased through the Foundation since 2008. These acquisitions are outlined in annual reports.
